Foresters Complete Sweep of Knox With 81-67 Triumph
Beckford, Klos, and McDonald combined for 65 points

GALESBURG, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s basketball team won its third straight game Tuesday (January 13), an 81-67 decision at Knox College. The Foresters are now 6-5 overall and 3-1 in Midwest Conference play after sweeping the season series against the Prairie Fire, who are 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.

After a 22-point, 12-rebound performance last Thursday (January 8), sophomore forward Franklyn Beckford (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) led the team with 24 points and 11 boards on Tuesday. He shot 9-for-13 from the floor to raise his field goal percentage on the season to .655.

Sophomore guard Greg Klos (Carol Stream, IL/Glenbard North) connected on five of seven attempts from three-point range and six of seven from the free throw line to score a career-high 23 points. Junior forward Eric McDonald (Elk Grove, IL/Elk Grove) shot 7-for-8 from the charity stripe and had 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Foresters shot exactly 50% in the game while Knox connected on 43.3% of its field goals. Lake Forest also shot 44.4% from beyond the three-point arc and 76.7% from the free throw line. The Prairie Fire shot 33.3% from long-range and just 41.2% from the line. The visitors out-rebounded Knox 36-34 and committed three fewer turnovers (11-14).

Lake Forest led 12-10 after eight minutes before rattling off 14 consecutive points. The lead reached 20 points before a Knox three-pointer at the buzzer cut it to 39-22 at halftime.

The Prairie Fire slowly battled back to within six points (53-47) with nine minutes to play in the game but the Foresters scored seven straight and never led by fewer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Lake Forest will be back at home on Friday (January 16) night for a 7:30 tip-off with Carroll College. The Pioneers are 6-5 overall this season and 2-2 against MWC opponents.
