MWC Lead Now Two Games After 56-51 Victory Over St. Norbert
Stingy defense earns Foresters another win

Fred Bell lad all scorers on Friday with 13 points.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men's basketball team did what it was supposed to do by defeating St. Norbert at home Friday (January 19th) night by a score of 56-51. They also got some help from the rest of the Midwest Conference as all three teams trailing the first-place Foresters by just one game going into the weekend lost on Friday, increasing that lead to two games.

Sophomore guard Fred Bell (Mequon, WI/Homestead) led all scorers with 13 points. It marked the third time in the last 5 games that Bell has been Lake Forest's leading scorer.

Fellow sophomores Evan Powers (Bondurant, IA/Bondurant-Farrar), a forward, and Lee Taylor (Sheldon, IA/Sheldon), a guard, chipped in 10 points each, combining to make 10 of 19 field goal attempts. Powers added 7 rebounds, Taylor had 6 and they each dished out a pair of assists.

Senior center J.R. Jurecko (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) led the way in the rebound category with 15, tying his season high. The Foresters overcame a rough night shooting the ball (40.7% from the field) and 20 turnovers by out-rebounding the Green Knights 47-31 and holding them to 35.6% field goal shooting. Lake Forest leads the MWC in field goal percentage defense in league games (37.0%) and entered the week ranked 7th in the nation in all games at 37.2%. After their two games this week that figure has dropped to 36.3%.

The Foresters were behind for much of the first half and went into the locker room trailing 27-23. St. Norbert opened up 9-point leads in each half before Lake Forest went on a 22-4 run between 15:21 and 4:50 to go in the game to take a 9-point lead of their own at 52-43. St. Norbert cut the lead to three (54-51) and had the ball with 34 seconds to go but couldn't convert and the Foresters scored once more to put the game away.

Lake Forest is now 11-2 overall on the season and 6-1 in the conference. They'll take their two-game MWC lead into Saturday's (January 20th) match-up at home against Lawrence University, beginning at 5:00 PM. Lawrence is 7-6 overall and one of three teams tied for second in the league at 5-3.
