Lake Forest Falls to Knox, 70-62

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men's basketball team dropped a home game to Knox College Tuesday (January 21) by a score of 70-62. The loss leaves the Foresters with an overall record of 2-11 and a Midwest Conference mark of 1-5. Knox is now 6-7 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Sophomore forward Eric McDonald (Elk Grove, IL/Elk Grove) led Lake Forest with 22 points and eight rebounds. He connected on eight of 13 field goal attempts and five of nine shots from the line.

Senior guards Lee Taylor (Sheldon, IA/Sheldon) and Fred Bell (Mequon, WI/Homestead) each scored nine points. Taylor also had six rebounds and two steals while Bell led the squad with four assists.

Lake Forest shot 37.5% from the floor (21/56) while the Prairie Fire shot 41.8% (23/55). Both teams struggled from three-point range, combining to make just 15 of 53 attempts. Knox had one more rebound (36-35) and one less turnover (15-16) than the Foresters.

There were six ties and five lead changes in a highly competitive first half. Knox's largest lead of the period was four points while the home team led by as many as five. After the first-half buzzer sounded, the game was tied at 27.

Lake Forest led 32-29 early in the second half before a 14-2 Knox run gave the visitors a nine-point lead (43-34) with 14 minutes to play. The Foresters gradually came back and finally tied the score at 49 with nine minutes left. The home team was actually ahead 56-55 with less than three minutes to go when the Prairie Fire began a 12-2 run to capture the victory.

The Foresters will be at home again this weekend (January 24-25) when they host Beloit College (5-8, 3-3 MWC) Friday night at 7:30 and Ripon College (11-2, 5-1) Saturday evening at 5:00.
