Men's Forester Basketball Tied for #1: Strong
Defense Contributes to Wins
Lake Forest men's basketball won both of their home games last weekend
against two conference opponents. On Friday night, the Foresters
defeated St. Norbert College, 53-42. Lake Forest continued
their success by defeating Lawrence University on Saturday, 71-60.
The Foresters are now undefeated, and tied with Knox, for the lead in the
Midwest Conference rankings for the season.
Lake Forest played solid defense against the Green Knights, who had
ten blocks against the Foresters and committed 18 turnovers. Lake
Forest out-rebounded St. Norbert with 50 rebounds to 38, while also forcing
15 steals. The Foresters had a 31.7 field goal percentage and held
St. Norbert to 26.3 percent for the game.
Leading scorers for Lake Forest included junior J.R. Jurecko with ten
points, two steals, and 15 rebounds, sophomore Bryan Bertola with nine
points and one block, and sophomore Brian Bruha with nine points, six steals,
and ten rebounds.
Freshman Lee Taylor pulled down seven rebounds and scored five points,
while Fred Bell scored nine points.
In their second game of the weekend Lake Forest continued to give a
strong defensive performance while running their offense successfully.
They defeated Lawrence by forcing 22 turnovers and eight steals.
The Foresters were down by two at halftime, 26-28, but they overcame that
mark to out score Lawrence 45-32 in the second half.
The leading scorers for Lake Forest were Bertola with ten points, four
steals, and three rebounds and Bruha had 14 points and 4 rebounds.
Freshman Eric Tolar had a team-high 17 points and three rebounds.
Lake Forest improved their record to 7-5, 6-0 in the MWC.
