FORESTER BASKETBALL PROGRAMS CONTINUE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

For the second consecutive year, the Lake Forest College men's and women's basketball programs will join in the fight against cancer as a member of the Coaches vs. Cancer program, sponsored nationally by the American Cancer Society, Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). In its inaugural year at Lake Forest, the program raised over $3000.00. Lake Forest is one of 193 organization nationwide and 13 Illinois colleges and universities participating in this year's Coaches vs. Cancer program.

The NABC and WBCA formed their partnership with the American Cancer Society in October 1994. The NABC and WBCA serve as community outreach agents who elevate moral, ethical, and educational values. The alliance, inspired by the death of Coach Jim Valvano, decided to join the fight against cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer is a national program to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. Men's and women's basketball coaches, in conjunction with local sponsors such as the NewsSun, Buffo's Restaurant, Lake Forest Video, Lake Forest College Printing Services, and the Forester Athletic Network, are joining forces to implement the Coaches vs. Cancer Program at all Forester basketball games during the 1999-2000 season. Pledges can be made on a per three-point field made basis or through a flat donation.
