Lake Forest Routs Illinois College for Sixth Straight Win
Beckford scores 18 in homecoming

JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Forester men’s basketball team traveled to Illinois College Thursday (January 6) night and came away with a 78-57 victory. Lake Forest is now 7-3 overall on the year with a six-game winning streak and three victories in as many Midwest Conference games. The Blueboys fell to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Junior forward Franklyn Beckford (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) played well in front of his hometown crowd, scoring a team-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor. Junior guards Greg Klos (Carol Stream, IL/Glenbard North) and Dodd Browning (Champaign, IL/Central) added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Browning shot 4-for-6 from the field and Klos was 4-for-7 from three-point range. Sophomore guard Brad Wehner (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan North) chipped in with nine points and led the squad with six rebounds.

The Foresters shot 58.2% on the night and connected on at least half of their field goal attempts for the third straight game. The squad also shot 44.4% (8-of-18) from beyond the three-point arc and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. Illinois College shot just 40% from the field, 6-0f-17 from long range, and 7-of-15 from the foul line. Lake Forest out-rebounded the Blueboys 39-23 but forced just seven turnovers while committing 13.

The game was tied at 10 before a 9-0 Lake Forest run gave the visitors the lead for good. The Foresters used a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 12 points (28-16) and closed out the half with seven more points in a row to take a 38-20 lead into intermission.

The Blueboys trimmed the margin to 13 points twice early in the second half but would get no closer. An 8-0 run by the visitors gave them a 48-27 advantage and the difference was at least 20 points for the majority of the period.

The Foresters will try to remain undefeated in conference play on Saturday (January 8) when they host Grinnell College at 3:00 p.m.
