SPURLIN, FLICK AMONG AWARD WINNERS AT FALL SPORTS BANQUET
Matt Spurlin, a junior, and Andy Flick, a senior, were among those who received awards at the Lake Forest College Fall Sports Banquet. Spurlin was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player and Flick the Most Improved Player.
Spurlin, a First Team All-Midwest Conference selection in 1999, led a defense that allowed just 1.22 goals per conference game on the season. He also tied for the team lead with four goals from his defenseman position.
Flick, also a defenseman, registered a goal and two assists for the 1999 season. Coming into the season, Flick had not scored a point during a varsity match.
Along with Spurlin's All-Conference selection, junior Troy Abeln, also a defenseman, was a Second Team All-Conference pick this season. He recorded two goals and two assists for six points.
Receiving their Academic All-Conference awards were Abeln, Spurlin, and Goran Skosples. Also honored for being named Midwest Conference Player of the Week were Justin Trent (Offensive) on October 4th and Michael Richardson (Defensive) on October 25th.
The Foresters finished the 1999 season with a 6-10-0 overall record and a 4-5-0 mark in the MWC, good enough for a fourth place finish and spot in the MWC Championship Tournament.
