Men's Soccer Advances to the Midwest Conference Championship Match
Lake Forest will face Ripon on Sunday at noon 

RIPON, WI - Lake Forest College defeated Grinnell College on Saturday in the second Midwest Conference men's soccer semifinal match. Ripon College, this year's top seed and tournament host, took care of Beloit College, 5-2, in the day's first game. 

Lake Forest (12-5-0) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win, while Grinnell (8-8-1) finished 2000 season with a .500 record.

Lake Forest and Ripon will play tomorrow (November 5th) at noon for the Midwest Conference championship. Ripon has won the past three titles, while Lake Forest has won a conference-leading 13 championships, with their last coming in 1996. In fact, the two schools' have combined for the past five MWC titles and seven on the last nine.

Ripon defeated Lake Forest, 4-0, on September 9th in the Forester's MWC opener. Lake Forest has not lost to a conference opponent since. 

On Saturday, Grinnell battled Lake Forest to a scoreless first half. The Foresters put up the game's first goal in the 52nd minute when freshman Dan Carver (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) found senior Steve Leroux (Hudson, Quebec/Choate Rosemary Hall (CT)) for a score. 

Chris Mickschl (Glendale, WI/Nicolet), assisted by Steve Teisl (Chardon, OH/Gilmour Academy), added an insurance goal in the 75th minute for Lake Forest.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ed Elliott (Decatur, IL/Culver Military Academy (IN)) stopped all six of the shots on goal he faced to record his fifth shutout of the year.
