Ripon Stops Lake Forest's Quest for MWC Crown
Red Hawks win fourth straight men's soccer title with 4-0 victory

RIPON, WI - Ripon College won their fourth consecutive Midwest Conference championship in men's soccer with a 4-0 win over Lake Forest College on Sunday (November 5th).

Ripon (16-2-0) earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win.

Lake Forest (12-6-0) lost just twice to MWC teams this season. Both losses came by 4-0 scores at the hands of Ripon.

Jordan Watson's goal off an Erik Johnson throw-in in the 26th minute was the only scoring in the first half and the game's first 65 minutes.

At the 65:45 mark, Matthew Schmitz scored on a break-away to give Ripon a 2-0 lead.

The Red Hawks would add another goal in the 87th minute (by Brian Bale), roughly one minute after Lake Forest had substituted ten starters, including starting goalkeeper Ed Elliott (Decatur, IL/Culver Military Academy (IN)) who had two saves.

Schmitz would add his second goal of the day at the 87:53 mark for the game's final tally.

Phil Serna recorded five saves for the shutout.

Ripon out-shot the Foresters 14-10 on the afternoon.
