Foresters Defeat Beloit, Fall at St. Norbert in MWC Tournament
Team finishes season with 11-5-2 record

DE PERE, WI - The Forester men's soccer team defeated Beloit College 3-1 Friday (November 7) in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament but fell 1-0 to host and league champion St. Norbert College in Saturday's (November 8) final. Lake Forest completed its 2003 season with an 11-5-2 record, matching the team's best winning percentage since 1996. Beloit finished with an 11-6-0 record and St. Norbert, who receives the MWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, is now 15-3-0.

Beloit got on the scoreboard first on Friday on a Michael Findlay goal less than two-and-a-half minutes into the contest. The Foresters tied the score on a penalty kick by senior Steve Teisl (Chardon, OH/Gilmour Academy), his seventh of the year, at the 33-minute mark.

Lake Forest took the lead just 5:04 into the second half on freshman Michael Watman's (Flossmoor, IL/Mount Carmel) second score of the season. Junior Andrew Cochran (Bedford, NH/Derryfield School) added an insurance goal with less than nine minutes remaining in the match. Senior Matt Deimler (Wadsworth, IL/Warren Township) assisted on Cochran's team-high eighth score of 2003.

Freshman goalkeeper Pat Witwicki (Lake Villa, IL/Antioch) recorded a season-high 10 saves and finished the year with a 5-2-1 record.

Both teams attempted 10 shots in the first period and eight in the final 45 minutes. Lake Forest had five corner kick opportunities while limiting the Buccaneers to just one.

The only goal of the loss to St. Norbert came off the head of the Green Knights' A.J. Herrman less than ten minutes into the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Brad Rathe (Deer Park, IL//Lake Zurich) tallied a season-high eight saves.

St. Norbert out-shot the Foresters 18-6 and had 8 corner kicks, three more than the visitors.

Cochran, Deimler, and freshman Walter Echeverry (Glenview, IL/Maine Township East) tied for the team lead with 17 points each. Cochran's eight goals and six assists from senior Evan Klaus (Belvedere, CA/Brooks School) were also team-highs. The squad will lose seven players to graduation in May.
