Men's Soccer Romps IC in Final MWC Regular Season Game
Lake Forest Scores Five Second Half Goals in Route to 6-1 Win

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College overcame a slugglish start to defeat visiting Illinois College, 6-0, on Sunday in Midwest Conference men's soccer action.

After being held scoreless for the first 36 minutes of the game, Lake Forest (9-3-0, 8-1-0 MWC) exploded for four goals over the next 14 minutes, and tallied five second half goals.

Illinois College (1-10-0, 1-6-0 MWC) lost for the tenth time in eleven games this season.

The win was the Forester's ninth in their last ten games and gave LF a 8-1-0 final regular season record in the MWC. The Foresters, the first team to finish their league schedule, have clinched a berth in the four-team MWC Championship Tournament on November 4th and 5th. Lake Forest can do no worse than the second seed, but can only claim the top seed with Ripon College losses in their final two games of the season (vs. Grinnell College on October 21st and vs. Knox College on October 22nd). Ripon is the only blemish on the Foresters conference schedule and would host the conference tournament with one more win.

On Sunday, freshman Dan Carver (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) opened the scoring in the 36th minute on a one-timer from Mike Munson (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union). It was the third game-winning goal of the season for Carver.

Munson scored a goal of his own twelve minutes later, assisted by Phil Schwab (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College). It was the first goal of the season for Munson and the first of three goals to come in the next minute-and-forty-five seconds.

Steve Leroux (Hudson, Quebec/Choate Rosemary Hall (CT)) scored his third goal of the season and Carver got his second of the day, fourth of the weekend, and tenth of the year to give Lake Forest a 4-0 lead. Freshman Steve Teisl (Chardon, OH/Gilmour Academy) assisted on both goals.

Chad Mickschl (Glendale, WI/Nicolet) and Jeff Russo (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) scored in the 70th and 81st minutes, respectively, to close out the scoring. It was the first career goal for Russo, a sophomore.

Ed Elliott (Decatur, IL/Culver Military Academy (IN)) stopped all three shots on goal that he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season.

Lake Forest will close out their regular season with four non-conference contests, starting with a trip to North Central College in Chicago on Wednesday (October 18th).
