Foresters Win Twice in the MWC for the Second Straight Weekend
Schmidt has a hand in all four of the team’s goals

MONMOUTH, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team won a pair of Midwest Conference road games over the weekend (October 15-16) to remain in contention for one of the four spots in the MWC Tournament. The Foresters won 2-1 at Illinois College on Saturday and 2-0 at Monmouth College on Sunday and are now 9-3-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the league. It was the team’s second straight weekend sweep of conference opponents. Illinois College fell to 2-9-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the MWC. Monmouth’s record dropped to 4-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in league play.

Freshman Jovani Villasenor (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) started the scoring at the 34:55 mark on Saturday with his second goal of the season. He sent in a corner kick from sophomore Attila Schmidt (Akron, OH/Western Reserve Academy). Schmidt scored the Foresters other goal less than five minutes into the second half on a foul kick. Schmidt’s tally turned out to be the game winner after the Blueboys pulled to within one with a goal at 84:18.

Lake Forest out-shot Illinois College 9-0 in the first half and 16-10 in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Elperin (Highland Park, IL/Lake Forest Academy) recorded four saves in the contest.

Elperin saved four more shots on goal and notched his fourth shutout of the season in Sunday’s victory over Monmouth. He is now 9-2-0 on the year with a 0.62 goals against average.

The Foresters out-shot the Fighting Scots 10-3 in a scoreless first half and 13-6 in the second.

Schmidt scored at 64:19 and headed in another goal to clinch the victory with 3:49 to play. Junior Mike Watman (Flossmoor, IL/Mt. Carmel) assisted on Schmidt’s team-high seventh goal of the season. He also leads the squad with nine assists and 23 points.

Lake Forest will play its final conference game of the season Tuesday (October 18) night at Carroll College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Foresters will host North Park University in their final regular season game of 2005 on Saturday, October 29, at 1:00 p.m.
