Foresters Finish 5-2-2 in MWC after Routs of Monmouth and Illinois College
Team outscores opponents 11-2 in two games combined

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team completed its 2004 Midwest Conference schedule with a pair of victories at home over the weekend (October 16-17). The Foresters defeated Monmouth College 5-1 on Saturday and Illinois College 6-1 on Sunday to raise their overall record to 10-2-2 and their MWC mark to 5-2-2.

Junior Tino Castrejon (Highwood, IL/Highwood) started the scoring on Saturday in the 25th minute. Senior Andy Cochran (Bedford, NH/Derryfield School) earned the assist on Castrejon’s fifth goal of the season. Three minutes after Monmouth tied the score in the 32nd minute, sophomore Jordan Lange (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton North) assisted junior Sam Figueroa (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett) on what proved to be the game-winning goal. Freshman Ben Levy (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) gave the home team a 3-1 lead and closed out the first-period scoring at 41:03.

Cochran scored for the second time this season at the 60:32 mark off an assist from sophomore Michael Watman (Flossmoor, IL/Mount Carmel) and Figueroa’s tacked on another insurance goal in the 63rd minute.

Freshman Jake Elperine (Highland Park, IL/Lake Forest Academy) earned the victory on Saturday and again on Sunday to raise his record on the year to 5-1-2. He recorded a pair of saves in each contest.

Castrejon assisted Levy on Sunday’s first score at the 29:13 mark. Levy struck again just five minutes later with his team-high eighth goal of the season with both junior Alex Lofgren (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) and sophomore Anthony Buti (Geneva, IL/Geneva) earning an assist. The Foresters led 2-0 after the first 45 minutes.

Sophomore Walter Echeverry (Glenview, IL/Maine Township East) scored the team’s third goal, his fifth of the year, at 49:21 but the Blueboys pulled back to within two in the 60th minute. Buti then scored for the first time as a Forester off an Echeverry assist at 63:22. Figueroa scored at 79:28 from Levy and again at 88:37 from senior John Karner (Gurnee,IL/Warren Township) for his second straight two-goal game. He now has seven this season.

Lake Forest will play a non-conference game on the road each of the next two Saturdays. The Foresters will travel to UW-Whitewater for a 2:30 p.m. game on October 23 and to Aurora University for a 1:00 p.m. contest on October 30.
