Lake Forest Comeback Falls Just Short at Elmhurst College

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Forester men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 at Elmhurst College on Friday (October 17). Lake Forest is now 3-10-0 on the season while the Bluejays raised their record to 12-4-0.

Elmhurst scored 25 minutes into the contest and added another first-half goal with six minutes remaining in the period. The home team extended its lead to 3-0 just 46 secodns in to the second half.

The Foresters, however, got on the scoreboard on the first career goal by freshman Jerrold Rosema (Spring Lake, Mich./W. Michigan Christian) at 55:11. He was assisted by junior Ben Cady (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear). Freshman Robbie Weis (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) then pulled the visitors to within one on his team-high fifth goal of the year at 66:22. Senior Erik Bene (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) was credited with the assist.

Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Sam Malmberg (Concord, N.H./St. Paul's School) recorded seven saves before exiting the game after the Foresters' first goal. He was replaced by freshman Trevor Pontillo (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion Benton), who set a career-high by turning away all 11 of the shots on goal he faced in the game's final 34:49.

The Foresters will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule Sunday afternoon (October 19) against Carthage College. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play next Saturday (October 25) at Grinnell College at 1:30 p.m.
