Lake Forest Qualifies for MWC Tourney with Double-Overtime Win at Carroll

WAUKESHA, WI - Forester men’s soccer team rattled off its eighth consecutive victory and fifth straight Midwest Conference win Tuesday (October 18) night, a 1-0 double-overtime decision at Carroll College. Lake Forest is now 10-3-1 overall this season with a final league mark of 6-3-0. The Pioneers fell to 5-6-2 overall and 4-2-0 in the MWC.

Carroll out-shot the visitors 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes and the teams each attempted a pair of shots in the second period. The Pioneers recorded one shot in the first overtime and the game winner was the first scoring attempt for either team in the second.

Senior Sam Figueroa (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett) kicked in a loose ball following a corner kick with 2:07 remaining in the second extra 10-minute period. It was his second goal of the season.

Sophomore Jacob Elperin (Highland Park, IL/Lake Forest Academy) recorded six saves in the contest and recorded his fifth complete-game shutout of the season. He is now 10-2-0 on the year with a 0.56 goals against average and has surrendered just one score in his last 562 minutes in front of the net.

The Foresters will play their final regular season game on Saturday, October 29, at home against North Park University. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m. Lake Forest has qualified for the four-team MWC Tournament the following weekend (November 4-5) at league champion St. Norbert College.
