LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men's soccer team kept its Midwest Conference Tournament hopes alive with a 3-2 victory at home over Monmouth College Saturday (October 19). Monmouth, who knocked off Lake Forest in last year's conference tournament final, falls to 6-5-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the MWC. The Foresters are now 6-6-0 overall and 4-3-0 in league play. The victory will give Lake Forest the tiebreaker edge over Monmouth should the teams finished the season tied for one of the conference's four tourney berths.

After a scoreless first half, the Foresters recorded the game's first goal at the 50:12 mark. Junior forward Dan Carver (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) scored the goal, his third of the season, and fellow junior forward Caleb Chase (Hanover, NH/Vermont Academy) notched his third assist of 2002.

Chase scored each of the game's next two goals. His team-leading seventh of the year came just 61 seconds after the team's first score and was assisted by freshman Sam Figueroa (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett). Junior Matt Deimler (Wadsworth, IL/Warren Township) earned the assist on Chase's second goal, which was scored at the 60:27 mark and gave the Foresters a 3-0 lead.

Monmouth fought back, however, and scored twice in a 65-second span to cut the Lake Forest advantage to 3-2. The Foresters held off the Fighting Scots for the final 20 minutes to preserve the victory.

Lake Forest will be back on Nick Wasylik Field on Sunday (October 20) when it hosts Illinois College at 1:00 p.m. The Blueboys are 4-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in MWC games.
