A Tie and a Loss Drop Foresters to 4-2-2 in MWC Play

MONMOUTH, IL - The Lake Forest College men's soccer team recorded a 2-2 tie at Illinois College on Saturday (October 18) and lost 2-1 at Monmouth College on Sunday (October 19). The Foresters are now 9-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College moved to 2-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the MWC. Monmouth is 5-5-2 overall and 3-3-0 in the league.

Ryan Kennedy of Illinois College scored the game's first goal on Friday in the 23rd minute. Forester freshman forward Walter Echeverry (Glenview, IL/Maine Township East) tied the score at the 30:41 mark with his seventh goal of the year. Senior midfielder Matt Deimler (Wadsworth, IL/Warren Township) was credited with the assist. Lake Forest out-shot the Blueboys 11-2 in the first half but each team had one goal at intermission.

The visitors took the lead at the 55:49 mark on senior midfielder Steve Teisl's (Chardon, OH/Gilmour Academy) fifth goal of the season. Freshman defender Jordan Lange (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton North) recorded the assist, his first career point. Illinois College was awarded a penalty kick with 9:24 remaining in regulation and Donnie Patton converted. Lake Forest attempted eight more shots (10-2) in the period but the score was 2-2 after 90 minutes of play.

Neither team was able to score in the two ten-minute overtimes. The Foresters attempted three shots and the home team two in each period.

Lake Forest out-shot Monmouth 12-6 in the first half on Sunday but trailed 1-0 at intermission after Malcolm Wallace put the Fighting Scots ahead in the 37th minute.

Senior defender Reilly O'Connor (North Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy) scored his first goal as a Forester at the 60-minute mark to tie the score. Senior midfielder Evan Klaus (Belvedere, CA/Brooks School) was credited with the assist, his team-high sixth of the year. Monmouth's Mark Allen, however, put the Scots back on top at the 75-minute mark and Lake Forest was unable to come back again.

The Foresters will play another MWC game on the road Thursday (October 23) afternoon at Carroll College (5-6-1, 2-2-1 MWC). The match will begin at 4:00 p.m.
