Lake Forest Defeats M.S.O.E.; Game against Loras Canceled
Elperin gets victory and goal in same game

Jake Elperin now has a pair of goals in his career.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men’s soccer team hosted and defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-1 Saturday (October 1) morning. The team’s home game against Loras College Sunday afternoon was canceled at halftime because of lightning and will not be completed. Lake Forest now owns a 4-3-1 record on the season. M.S.O.E. is 2-6-2.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard first on Saturday when sophomore Seth Byers (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati Colerain) moved into a tie for the team lead with his fourth goal of the year. It was scored at 11:20 and assisted by senior Alex Lofgren (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South). Freshman Jovani Villasenor (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) gave the home team a two-goal lead just three minutes later with his first career goal. Sophomore Attila Schmidt (Akron, OH/Western Reserve Academy) earned the assist and leads the team with six helpers and a dozen points this season. The visitors recorded their only goal of the contest at 16:31 and the score remained 2-1 for the rest of the opening half.

Sophomore Jacob Elperin (Highland Park, IL/Lake Forest Academy) played goalkeeper for the Foresters in the first half, recorded four saves, and earned the victory. He saw time at forward in the second half and kicked in the period’s only goal at 59:50. Senior Jon Duke (Eugene, OR/Marist) assisted on Elperin’s first score of the year. Freshman Sam Malmberg (Concord, NH/St. Paul's School) was in goal for the second half and stopped the Raiders’ only shot on goal in the period.

Lake Forest and Loras played a scoreless first half on Sunday before lightning forced the match to be canceled. There are no plans to make up the game and it did not reach the required 70 minutes to count on the teams’ records.

The Foresters will host another non-conference game Tuesday (October 4) afternoon at 4:00 against Marian College. The Foresters will also host Midwest Conference foe Grinnell College on Saturday (October 8) at 10:00 a.m.
