Foresters Suffer Double-Overtime Loss at Carroll

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team closed out its Midwest Conference schedule with a 4-3 loss in double-overtime at Carroll College Wednesday (October 24) night. The Foresters are now 5-10-0 overall and 3-6-0 in league play. The Pioneers raised their overall record on the year to 10-5-1 and MWC mark to 6-1-0.

The home team scored first just 8:08 into the contest. Lake Forest tied the score on an unassisted goal by junior Steve Stavropoulos (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) at 11:58 but allowed the Pioneers to regain the advantage just 53 second later. Carroll extended its lead to 3-1 at the 21:29 mark and the rest of the first half was scoreless.

Stavropoulos scored his second goal of the game and team-high eight of the year just 4:40 into the second half off an assist from junior Ben Levy (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury). The Foresters tied the score on senior Attila Schmidt’s (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve) fourth goal of the season at 67:43.

After one scoreless 10-minute overtime period, Carroll finally scored the game-winner just two minutes into the second extra frame.

Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Tom Biesiada (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake Central) came into the game at halftime and made five saves while surrendering just one goal in 57 minutes of play.

The Foresters will close out the season when they host North Park University Saturday (October 27) morning at 10:00.
