Foresters Finish MWC’s Regular Season with Overtime Win over Carroll
Georgen and Watman celebrate Senior Day with goals

Mike Watman
Lake Forest, Ill. – The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team closed out the Midwest Conference portion of its schedule with a 2-1 overtime victory over Carroll College on Wednesday (October 25). It was also the Foresters’ final home game of 2006. The team raised its overall record on the year to 7-6-2 and its MWC mark to 4-3-2. The Pioneers fell to 4-8-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the league.

The home team got on the scoreboard first in the game’s 14th minute on senior Chris Georgen’s (St. Louis, Mo./Crossroads) fourth goal of the season he was assisted by junior Josh Enck (Antioch, Ill./Antioch). The Pioneers tied the score in the 33rd minute.

Neither team was able to net another goal the rest of the first half or in the second 45 minutes. Forester senior Mike Watman (Flossmoor, Ill./Mt. Carmel) finally kicked in the game winner just 75 second into overtime. His first goal of the season was assisted by fellow senior Walter Echeverry (Glenview, Ill./Maine East).

Junior goalkeeper Jacob Elperin (Highland Park, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) recorded three saves and earned the victory. He is now 5-4-1 on the season with a 1.45 goals against average.

While there is still a slight chance the Foresters could reach the four-team MWC Tournament, Friday (October 27) night’s game at Wheaton College will likely be their season finale. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
