Lake Forest Splits 1-0 Games against MWC Foes over the Weekend
Trevor Pontillo blanks Beloit for first career win

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Forester men's soccer team played a pair of Midwest Conference games over the weekend (October 25-26). Lake Forest fell 1-0 at Grinnell College on Saturday before winning by the same score over visiting Beloit College the following afternoon. The Foresters are now 4-12-0 overall and 3-4-0 in league play this season. Grinnell raised its record to 10-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the MWC. Beloit fell to 5-8-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference play.

Grinnell out-shot Lake Forest 8-3 in Saturday's first half and 7-6 in the second but both teams put just two shots on goal in the game. The Pioneers scored the only goal with 10:07 to play in the contest.

The Foresters were out-shot 11-6 going into the wind in Sunday's opening period but still scored the game's only goal with 6:01 left before halftime. Senior Steve Stavropoulos (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) kicked in his second of the year with an assist credited to freshman Robbie Weis (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), who leads the team with 12 points.

Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Trevor Pontillo (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion Benton) recorded five saves in his first collegiate victory and shutout.

It was the first game for head coach Derek Niepomnik after the birth of his daughter Darby the previous Monday.

The Foresters will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule Sunday afternoon (October 19) against Carthage College. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play next Saturday (October 25) at Grinnell College at 1:30 p.m.
