Freshman blanked Beloit for first career victory

Trevor Pontillo
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Lake Forest College men’s soccer player Trevor Pontillo (Winthrop Harbor/Zion Benton) was named Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday (October 27) for his performance in a pair of low-scoring games the previous two days.

Pontillo, a freshman goalkeeper, recorded one save and held host Grinnell College scoreless on Saturday until, with 10:07 to play in the contest, the Pioneers netted the game’s only goal.

On Sunday Pontillo stopped all five of visiting Beloit College’s shots on goal in the Foresters’ 1-0 triumph. It was the first victory and shutout of his career.

Pontillo leads Lake Forest with 43 saves this season.

Midwest Conference Performers of the Week are selected by the league’s sports information directors.
