Foresters Finish Season 12-2-2 after Shutout of Aurora
Lofgren and Karner score in season finale

AURORA, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team closed out a fine season with a 2-0 triumph at Aurora University on Sunday (October 31). The outcome raised the Foresters’ overall record on the year to 12-2-2 while dropping Aurora’s mark to 14-3-3.

The visitors put two goals on the scoreboard early in the contest. Junior Alex Lofgren (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) scored for the second time this season at 16:45 and senior John Karner (Gurnee,IL/Warren Township) added another goal, his third of the year, at 18:25. Senior Alex Stavropolous (Vernon Hills, IL/Stevenson) earned his first point of the season by assisting on the second goal.

Sophomore Pat Witwicki (Lake Villa, IL/Antioch) recorded six saves in the shutout, his second in a row and third of 2004. He finished the year with a 7-1-0 record and is now 12-3-1 in his career.

The team, which includes just four seniors, outscored its opponents 42-23 over the course of the season.

Freshman Ben Levy (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) led the squad with eight goals and 20 points. He is the 14th different goals leader Lake Forest has had in the last 14 years. Sophomore Walter Echeverry’s (Glenview, IL/Maine Township East) seven assists led the team and his 17 points were tied with junior Sam Figueroa (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett) for second.
