Foresters Sweep Pair of League Games Over the Weekend
Team defeats Knox on Saturday, Ripon on Sunday

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team won a 2-1 decision at Knox College on Saturday (September 11) and shut out Ripon College 2-0 at home the following afternoon in its first game on the newly renovated Farwell Field. The Foresters are now 4-1-0 overall on the season and 2-1-0 in Midwest Conference play. Both Knox and Ripon fell to 0-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the league.

The Foresters jumped out to an early lead at Knox on junior Adam Antell’s (Colchester, VT/Colchester) second goal of the season at the 22:09 mark. Junior Sam Figueroa (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett) scored his first of the season in the third minute of the second half to extend the Foresters’ lead. Senior Victor Pacheco (Highwood, IL/Highwood) and junior Alex Lofgren (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) each earned his first point of the season by assisting on Antell’s and Figueroa’s goals, respectively. Knox scored at 58:24 to cut the lead in half but the visitors held on for the victory.

Lake Forest Freshman Jake Elperine (Highland Park, IL/Lake Forest Academy) recorded a pair of saves to raise his record to 2-0-0.

Sophomore Pat Witwicki (Lake Villa, IL/Antioch) was in goal for the Foresters in Sunday’s win over Ripon and recorded his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career. He needed just three saves to blank the Red Hawks.

Lofgren scored the game’s first goal off a corner kick from junior Tino Castrejon (Highwood, IL/Highwood) in the 36th minute. Lofgren also assisted on the team’s second score, Jon Duke’s (Eugene, OR/Marist) first goal of the season, at 40:12.

Lake Forest will continue its MWC schedule Saturday (September 18) afternoon at Lawrence University. The game will begin at 3:00.
