Foresters Rout Concordia University Chicago 7-1
Attila Schmidt and Steve Stavropoulos each score twice

Lake Forest, Ill. – The Lake Forest College men’s soccer team defeated Concordia University Chicago 7-1 at home on Wednesday (September 20). The Foresters are now 5-0-0 on the season while the Cougars fell to 2-4-0.

Senior Jordan Lange (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) started the scoring barrage just eight-and-a-half minutes into the contest when he headed in a corner kick from junior Attila Schmidt (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve) for his first goal of the season. Schmidt got on the scoreboard himself less than two minutes later when his corner kick wrapped over and around the Concordia goalie and into the net. Sophomore Steve Stavropoulos (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) made the score 3-0 at 17:53 and was assisted by senior Walter Echeverry (Glenview, Ill./Maine East). The visitors scored their only goal of the game at 28:28 and trailed 3-1 at halftime.

Echeverry set up Stavropoulos; second goal of the contest and third of the season at 56:04. Schmidt also scored for the second time on the day at 69:27 and now leads the team with six goals and 16 points. He and Echeverry are tied for the team lead with four assists. Sophomore Andi Keca (Bloomingdale, Ill./Addison Trail) assisted classmate Jovani Villasenor’s (Highwood, Ill./Highland Park) first goal of the year at 77:08 and senior Chris Georgen’s (St. Louis, Mo./Crossroads) third of the season at 85:43.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Malmberg (Concord, N.H./St. Paul's School) had one save in the first half of the game and recorded the victory. Junior Jacob Elperin (Highland Park, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) was in goal for the final 45 minutes and made four saves.

The Foresters will travel to St. Norbert College on Saturday (September 23) for a 4:00 match against the defending Midwest Conference champions.
