Lake Forest Makes it Two in a Row With 2-1 Win Over Carthage

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men's soccer team earned its second straight victory Saturday (September 28) by defeating Carthage College at home, 2-1. The win lifts Lake Forest's overall record to 3-5-0 on the season and the team's all-time record against the Redmen to 5-1-0.

Senior co-captain Jeff Russo (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the Foresters on the scoreboard first in the game's 10th minute. Junior Dan Carver (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) recorded his fourth assist of the season on Russo's first goal of 2002.

Lake Forest struck again in the 31st minute when freshman Sam Figueroa (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett) scored his first career goal off a pass from fellow freshman Matt Deimler (Wadsworth, IL/Warren Township), who notched his first career point.

Senior goalkeeper Ed Elliott (Decatur, IL/Culver Military Academy-IN) came within five minutes of earning the shutout. Carthage's Adam Hughes finally broke through at the 85:01 mark with the Redmen's only goal. Elliott tallied seven saves in the victory.

The Foresters will be in action again next Saturday (October 5) when they host Benedictine University (2:00 p.m.). Lake Forest, who is 2-2-0 in Midwest Conference play, will resume its league schedule the following Saturday (October 12) at Grinnell College.
