Foresters Fall at St. Norbert, Defeat Carleton to Open 2004

DE PERE, WI - The Lake Forest College men's soccer team opened the 2004 season with a tough 3-1 Midwest Conference loss at St. Norbert College on Saturday (September 4) but rebounded to defeat Carleton College 2-1 at home the following afternoon.

The Foresters surrendered a pair of goals in the first period at St. Norbert and another midway through the second. Junior Adam Antell (Colchester, VT/Colchester) scored his first career goal at the game's 74:03 mark to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

The Green Knights, the two-time defending league champions, out-shot Lake Forest 14-9 in the game.

Freshman Ben Levy (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) started the scoring on Sunday with his first career goal at the 21:59 mark. Sophomore Michael Watman (Flossmoor, IL/Mount Carmel) earned the assist. Antell assisted on the Foresters' second goal, scored by senior John Karner (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) at 32:13.

A shot accidentally deflected by his own defensive player was the only score allowed by freshman Jake Elperine (Highland Park, IL/Lake Forest) in his first collegiate victory.

The Foresters were actually out-shot 8-6 in the game.

Lake Forest will play at home again on Tuesday (September 7) at 4:30 p.m. against Benedictine University. The Foresters will be back on the road on Saturday (September 11) at Knox College and at home the following day against Ripon College in its first action on the synthetic playing surface of the newly renovated Farwell Field.
