Lake Forest Rallies for Second Straight Comeback Win
All five goals of 3-2 win come in second half

LISLE, Ill. – The Forester men’s soccer team posted a 3-2 victory at Benedictine University Wednesday (September 5) night to raise its record on the year to 2-0-0. The Eagles fell to 1-2-0.

After a scoreless opening half, junior Steve Stavropoulos (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) put the Foresters on the scoreboard at 51:25 with his fourth goal of the year. He was assisted by sophomore David Jo (Seoul, Korea/Stevenson).

Benedictine tied the game with a goal at 56:12 and pulled ahead with another at 68:18.

Lake Forest trailed for just 16 seconds before tying the game on senior Attila Schmidt’s (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve) second goal of the season. Junior Rob Palutsis (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) recorded the assist. Ten minutes later sophomore Ben Cady (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear) assisted classmate Petter Andersson (Nybro, Sweden/Malmo Borgarskolan) on the game-winning goal. It was the first career goal for Andersson.

Junior goalkeeper Sam Malmberg (Concord, N.H./St. Paul's School) recorded four saves in the victory.

The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference play Saturday (September 8) afternoon at Ripon College and will play their home opener next Tuesday (September 11) at 4:30 p.m. against the University of Chicago.
