Ripon Uses Strong Second Half to Knock Off Foresters, 4-0

LAKE FOREST, IL - In the Midwest Conference opener for both teams, visiting Ripon College broke through with four goals in the second half to claim a 4-0 win over Lake Forest College on Saturday (September 9th). Ripon has won the past three Midwest Conference championships while Lake Forest has won a league-leading 13 men's soccer titles. Either Lake Forest or Ripon has won the past five MWC championships (Ripon in 1999, 1998, and 1997; Lake Forest in 1996 and 1995).

Ripon got two goals from Tyler Skorczewski and one each from Joe Buchholz and Brian Bale. The Red Hawks' four goals were scored in a span of less than 24 minutes. 

Goalkeeper Phil Serna got the shutout for Ripon with two saves, while Lake Forest's Ed Elliott (Decatur, IL) recorded 10 saves. 

Lake Forest had 12 shots to Ripon's 21.

The Foresters will return to action a week from today when they travel to DePere, WI to face MWC foe St. Norbert College on Saturday, September 16th at 3:00.
