LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with three 7-0 victories at home over the weekend (April 8-10). The Foresters defeated a shorthanded Rockford College on Friday and, on Sunday, swept both the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Aurora University. The Foresters are now 4-6 on the season.

Rockford had just two players so matches at number one doubles and numbers one and two singles were the only ones contested. Freshmen Dan Otto (Austin, TX/St. Stephens) and Brayton Groth (Bloomfield Hill, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood) won 8-1 in doubles. Senior Alex Pukshansky (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number one singles and junior Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at number two.

On Sunday against M.S.O.E., the Foresters’ number one doubles team of Sandner and Groth won 8-3. Juniors Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) and Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) recorded an 8-6 victory at number two while Pukshansky and sophomore Alex Godin (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) claimed an 8-5 triumph at number three.

All six Foresters also won in singles play against the Raiders. After taking the first set 6-0 at number one, Pukshansky fell 6-4 in the second but rebounded for a 10-5 win in the match tie-break. Sandner (7-5, 6-2), Godin (6-0, 6-3), Burda (6-2, 6-3), and Bienia (6-2, 6-1) won more convincingly at positions two through five, respectively. Groth needed a 7-5 victory in the first-set tie-break to take the lead and finished off his opponent with a 6-3 win in the second set.

Lake Forest used the identical lineup in the sweep of Aurora. Sandner and Groth won their doubles match 7-5, 6-3. Burda and Bienia triumphed 6-0, 6-0 and Pukshansky and Godin claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

In singles, Pukshansky, Godin, Burda, and Bienia all won without surrendering a single game. Sandner recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory and Groth gave up just one game in his 6-1, 6-0 win.

The Foresters will play at home again Wednesday (April 13) afternoon at 4:00 against Elmhurst College. The team will be back on the road next Saturday (April 16) at fellow Midwest Conference South Division foes Knox College (9:00 a.m.) and Monmouth College (1:00 p.m.).
