Foresters Split First Two MWC South Matches of the Year
Team falls to Grinnell, defeats Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team split a pair of Midwest Conference South Division matches on Saturday (April 1) at Illinois College. The Foresters fell 7-0 to defending league champion Grinnell College before knocking off the hosts 5-2. Lake Forest is now 4-8 overall this season and 1-1 in divisional play. Grinnell also defeated Illinois College earlier in the day.

Grinnell defeated the Foresters in all six singles and each of the three doubles matches.

Lake Forest won the doubles point against Illinois College with victories at two of the three positions. Freshman Rocky Tektumanidze (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield) and sophomore Tim Tierney (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock) won 8-0 at number two and freshman Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood) combined with senior Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) for an 8-0 triumph at number three.

Fretter and Tierney also won in singles play at number three (6-2, 6-4) and five (6-1, 6-0), respectively. Senior Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) also posted a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) win at number two and freshman Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, MO/Chaminade) prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at number four.

The team will travel to Concordia University (IL) for a 3:30 p.m. match on Thursday (April 6). The Foresters will then host Beloit College on Saturday (April 8) and both Milwaukee School of Engineering and St. Norbert College on Sunday (April 9).
