Foresters Defeat Monmouth, Fall at Knox
Team finishes MWC South schedule 2-2

GALESBURG, IL - The Forester men's tennis team completed its Midwest Conference South Division schedule Saturday (April 19) with matches at Knox College and against Monmouth College. Lake Forest was defeated by Knox 5-1 but rebounded to knock off Monmouth by the same score. The Foresters are now 8-8 overall and 2-2 in divisional matches.

Freshman Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) was the Foresters' lone winner in the loss to Knox. He defeated the Prairie Fire's Adam Moeser at number three singles 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 6-3.

Against Monmouth, Lake Forest won at numbers two through six singles. Senior Andrew Schuman (San Francisco, CA/Lawrence Academy) triumphed at number two 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. At number three, Sandner finished the day 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Freshman Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) won convincingly at number four 6-1, 6-2. Junior Luke Figora (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville) has a team-best 9-6 record this season after claiming a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number five. Finally, freshman Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) did not lose a game in prevailing 6-0, 6-0 at number six.

The teams did not play doubles in either match.

Lake Forest will travel to the University of Chicago on Monday for a final tune-up before the MWC Championship Tournaments next weekend (April 26-27). The doubles tourney will be on Saturday and the singles competition will be played on Sunday.
