LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester men’s tennis team posted a pair of victories in four matches over the weekend (April 20-22), prevailing 8-1 at Lakeland College Friday night, falling 8-1 at Carthage College and 9-0 to Luther College on Saturday, and defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering 7-2 on Sunday. Lake Forest is now 16-7 on the season.

The Foresters won all three doubles matches at Lakeland. Junior Tim Tierney (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) and freshman Alex Presman (Deerfield, Ill/Deerfield) defeated the Muskies’ top tandem 8-2, freshman Joel Hainsfurther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) teamed with sophomore Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) for an 8-6 triumph at number two, and sophomore Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) and freshman Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) blanked their opponents 8-0 at three.

Presman also prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at number two singles, Hiemenz posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at three, and Hainsfurther won 6-1, 6-0 at four. Fretter and Campagna did not surrender even a game in their 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at numbers five and six, respectively.

The victory was the 50th for head coach Chris Kane in his nearly five years at Lake Forest, surpassing Chad Eisele for first place in program history.

Campagna was the only Foresters to win a match at Carthage. He extended his single-season school record for victories at number six singles to 18 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win. He was also the closest to posting a victory against Luther in a match that was played at Carthage. He fell, however, 0-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7).

The Foresters swept the doubles matches against M.S.O.E. Tierney and Presman prevailed 8-4 at number one, Hiemenz and Fretter combined for an 8-1 victory at two, and Campagan and Ma won 8-5 at three.

Hiemenz recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number three singles and Fretter won 6-1, 6-3 at four. Campagna continued his success with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at five and sophomore Ricky Galvez (Poolville, N.Y./Hamilton Central) defeated the Raiders’ number six player 7-5, 6-4.

Lake Forest will attempt to match the 2000 team’s school record 17 victories on Tuesday (April 24) at home against Rockford College. The Foresters’ final dual match of the season will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the squad will compete in the Midwest Conference Singles and Doubles Tournaments next weekend (April 28-29).
