Lake Forest Defeats Illinois College, Falls to Knox and Grinnell
Foresters finish third at MWC South Division Quadrangular

GALESBURG, IL - It was an "all-or-nothing" weekend for the Lake Forest College men's tennis team at the Midwest Conference South Division Quadrangular. On Friday (April 26th), the Foresters fell to host Knox College, 7-0. On Saturday (April 27th), Grinnell College also recorded a 7-0 victory over Lake Forest, who then defeated Illinois College later in the day by the same 7-0 score.

Grinnell won all three of its matches on Saturday to earn the South Division's top seed in next weekend's MWC Championship Tournament. Knox fell to Grinnell but defeated Illinois College to earn the #2 seed.

The Foresters' number four singles player, freshman Gabe Beauchamp (Brossard, Quebec/Mt. Hermon School), took his opponent to a third set in both his losses and knocked off Illinois College's number four without surrendering a single game. Senior Konrad Bienia (Lemont, IL/St. Lawrence Catholic) and junior Andrew Schuman (San Francisco, CA/Lawrence Academy), the team's number three and six players, respectively, also recorded perfect scores against IC.

Although Lake Forest did not qualify for the Midwest Conference Team Championship Tournament next Friday (May 3rd), the Foresters will compete in the position-by-position singles (Saturday) and doubles (Sunday) championship tourneys. The top four places in the MWC are determined by Friday's competition while places five through nine in the league are earned by accumulating points throughout the weekend's competition.
