MADISON, Wis. - The Forester men's tennis team was the runner-up at the Midwest Conference Team Championship Tournament Friday (April 30) at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Lake Forest defeated Lawrence University 5-1 in the semifinals but was unable to prevent Grinnell College from claiming its seventh straight league title on a 5-1 decision in the championship. The Foresters finished their final dual matches of the year with a 20-6 record.

Lake Forest claimed two of the three doubles matches against Lawrence. Senior Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) and junior Chris Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) won 8-3 for their eighth consecutive victory at #2. Freshmen John Adams (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Cheyenne Mountain) and Kevin Lasky (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) defeated their opponents 8-5 at #3.

Adams, Campagna, and Paterakos were also victorious in singles to give the Foresters a match-clinching five team points. Adams' 6-2, 6-3 win at #3 and Campagna's 6-1, 6-2 triumph at #3 extended their singles winning streaks to seven matches. Paterakos prevailed 7-5, 6-4 at #5 for his sixth straight victory.

As they did when the Foresters fell 8-1 to Grinnell on April 3, Adams and Lasky were defeated by a narrow 9-7 margin at #3 doubles. The Pioneers claimed each of the two doubles matches by more convincing scores and added wins at #1 and #5 singles to capture the 2010 conference title.

The 2010 MWC Championships will continue with tomorrow's six positional singles tournaments and the three doubles tourneys on Sunday.
