Foresters Split Pair of MWC South Division Matches
Team falls to Grinnell, defeats Illinois College

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men’s tennis team fell 7-0 to Grinnell College Saturday (April 3) morning but rebounded to defeat Illinois College 6-1 later in the day. Grinnell also knocked off Illinois College 7-0. Lake Forest is now 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Midwest Conference South Division play. Grinnell’s victories gave the Pioneers a 16-5 overall record and a 3-0 mark in league matches. The Blueboys fell to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the division.

The Foresters’ only victory against Grinnell came at number two doubles where freshman Michael Jolly (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) and sophomore Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) won 8-6.

Jolly and Burda were two of the four Foresters to win twice against Illinois College. Jolly swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles, Burda won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at number three, and the duo claimed an 8-5 victory at number two doubles.

Freshman Alex Godin (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) and sophomore Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) won 6-2, 6-2 at number four and five singles, respectively, and teamed up for an 8-2 victory at number three doubles.

Senior Beau Llewellyn (Oro Station, ON/Eastview Secondary School) was also victorious (6-1, 6-1) at number six singles.

The Foresters will play at Elmhurst College on Monday (April 5) at 3:30 p.m.
