Foresters Split With MWC South Division Opponents 
Team falls to Grinnell, defeats Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Lake Forest College men's tennis team took on a pair of fellow Midwest Conference South Division opponents Saturday (April 5). After falling 6-1 to Grinnell College in the first match of the day, the Foresters defeated host Illinois College by the same score. The team is now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in divisional play. Grinnell is 7-10 overall and 2-0 in the MWC South. IC lost its first two conference matches and fell to 1-6 overall.

Freshman Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) earned Lake Forest's only point in the match against Grinnell with his 6-1, 6-4 victory at number three singles.

While the Pioneers won the doubles point, Lake Forest junior Luke Figora (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville) and freshman Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) did come out on top of a 9-7 decision at number three.

Against Illinois College, freshman Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) won 6-4, 7-5 at number two singles. Burda made it two-for-two on the day at number three with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph. Sophomore Alex Pukshansky (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) registered a 6-4, 6-0 victory at number four and both Figora and Bienia prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at numbers five and six, respectively.

In doubles play, Burda and Sandner won 8-4 at number two. Figora and Bienia shut out the Blueboys' number three team 8-0.

The Foresters will begin their busiest stretch of their 2003 schedule at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday (April 9) in their home opener against the University of Chicago. Lake Forest will then host North Park University on Friday (April 11), travel to Beloit College on Saturday (April 12), and host both Dominican University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday (April 13).
