Foresters Split in Weekend on the Road
Tennis squad comes back to beat St. Norbert after falling to Lawrence

Konrad Bienia fought his way to an impressive comeback win at #2 singles at St. Norbert.
LAKE FOREST, IL - After getting off to a slow start this season, the Lake Forest College men's tennis team faced a formidable challenge as they traveled north on Saturday (April 6), attempting to get on track and notch their first victory of the season. When they returned home they had done just that, splitting their two matches versus Lawrence University and St. Norbert College.

The Foresters ran into a tough Viking squad early in the day, dropping all six singles matches and all three of their doubles matches. The number three doubles team of senior Evan Hall (Norwich, VT/Loomis Chaffee School) and junior Nick Londy (Jackson Hole, WY/Berkshire Preparatory School) provided the best hope for a Forester victory, eventually dropping a 7-9 decision.

Rather than pack their bags and call it a weekend, the team boarded the bus and continued north to DePere, WI, where the Green Knights of St. Norbert College awaited their arrival. The Foresters rallied to upend the hosts 6-1, recording their first victory of the season.

Five Foresters won their first match of the season, all in straight sets, led by senior Konrad Bienia (Lemont, IL/St. Lawrence Catholic) at number two singles. Bienia battled back from a 1-4 deficit in the first set to sweep the match 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Gabe Beauchamp (Brossard, Quebec/Mt. Hermon School) followed suit with an equally impressive 6-1, 6-4 victory at number three singles. Lake Forest completed their triumphant afternoon by taking two of three doubles matches from St. Norbert. Junior Dan Tobin (Lowell, MA/Lowell) and Londy teamed up for an 8-6 win at number three, Londy's second victory of the day.

Lake Forest (1-5) is scheduled to host the University of Chicago in a non-Midwest Conference match Wednesday, April 10.  Weather permitting, the match will be held at the Lake Forest High School East campus. The Foresters will then play host to Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday, April 12. The match is scheduled to take place at the Lake Forest High School West Campus.
