Lake Forest Splits Pair of MWC South Division Matches
Team defeats Knox, falls at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Forester men’s tennis team split a pair of Midwest Conference South Division matches at Monmouth College on Saturday (April 7). Lake Forest defeated Knox College 8-1 in the morning before falling 6-3 to the hosts in the afternoon. The Foresters are now 10-3 overall this season and have completed the MWC South portion of their schedule with a 2-2 mark. Knox fell to 4-6 and Monmouth raised its record to 10-4. Both teams were playing their first league match of the season.

Lake Forest won two of the three doubles matches against Knox. Sophomore Rocky Tektumanidze (Riverwoods, Ill./Deerfield) and freshman Alex Presman (Deerfield, Ill/Deerfield) prevailed 8-4 at number one and junior Tim Tierney (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) teamed with freshman Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) for an 8-5 triumph at number three.

The Foresters claimed all six singles matches. Tektumanidze won 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) at the top spot in the lineup and Presman recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory at number two. Sophomore Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) edged out Knox’s number three player 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-6) and freshman Joel Hainsfurther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) won 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at four. Sophomore Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) triumphed 6-3, 6-0 at number five and Campagna came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win at six.

The Foresters won two of the three doubles matches again against Monmouth. Fretter and Hainsfurther recorded an 8-5 victory at number two and Hiemenz and Tierney prevailed 8-3 at three.

Campagna’s convincing 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number six was the visitors’ only singles victory.

Lake Forest will play five matches in six days, beginning on Tuesday (April 10) at home at 4:00 p.m. against Aurora University. The Foresters will host Rockford College at the same time the next day and will travel to Carroll College on Thursday (April 12) for a 4:00 p.m. contest. On Sunday (April 15) the team will host Elmhurst College at 9:00 a.m. and St. Norbert College at 3:00 p.m.
