Foresters at .500 after Three Weekend Victories
Team knocks off Beloit, M.S.O.E., and St. Norbert

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team rattled off three victories at home over the weekend (April 8-9), defeating Beloit College 5-2 on Saturday, blanking Milwaukee School of Engineering 7-0 Sunday morning, and edging out St. Norbert College 4-3 that afternoon. The Foresters are now 8-8 on the season. Losses dropped Beloit to 2-3, M.S.O.E. to 1-5, and St. Norbert to 8-13.

Despite a 9-8 (7-2) victory at number three by senior Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) and sophomore Tim Tierney (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock), Beloit won the doubles point on Saturday.

However, the Foresters took five of the six singles matches to claim the victory. Freshman Rocky Tektumanidze (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield) won 6-2, 6-0 at number one. Senior Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) defeated Beloit’s number three player 6-4, 6-1 and freshman Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood) triumphed 7-5, 6-2 at number four. Freshman Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, MO/Chaminade) and Tierney each lost the first set 6-4 at numbers five and six, respectively, before coming back to win. Hiemenz took the second set 6-4 and the third-set tiebreak 10-7. Tierney posted a 6-1 victory in the second set and won the tiebreak 10-4.

Tektumanidze and Fretter teamed up for an 8-0 win at the top doubles position against M.S.O.E. Senior Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) teamed with Tierney for an 8-2 win at number two while Sander and Bienia prevailed 8-1 at number three.

Tektumanidze did not surrender a game at number one singles and Burda allowed lost just two games in the second set at number two. Sandner won 6-2, 6-2 at number three and Fretter routed the Raiders’ number four player 6-1, 6-0. Hiemenz claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at number five and both sets at number six were won 6-1 by Tierney.

St. Norbert won at both number one and three doubles to claim the first point of the match. Tektumanidze and Fretter posted an 8-0 win at number two.

The Foresters fell at each of the top two spots in the singles lineup but won at three, four, five, and six. Sandner won both sets by the same 6-2 score at number three and Tierney triumphed 6-3 in both sets at number six. Fretter also lost just six games in his 6-4, 6-2 victory at number four. The team score was 3-3 as the last match on the courts was drawing to a close. Hiemenz , who lost the first set 6-2 but rebounded to win the second 6-3, edged out his counterpart at number four 10-7 in the third-set tiebreak to give the home team the victory.

Lake Forest will play at Aurora University Thursday (April 13) at 4:00 p.m. and will host Monmouth College (9:00 a.m.) and Carroll College (3:00 p.m.) next Saturday (April 15).
