Men's Tennis Continutes with Impressive Season
The men's tennis team continued to smash through competition this past
week with victories over Oakton Community College and Lawrence University.
The Foresters raised their overall record to 10 - 4 and their Midwest
Conference record to a perfect 5- 0.
On Thursday, April 6, lake Forest demolished Oakton Community College
7 - 0. After dropping the first doubles game, the Foresters took
the next tow and then all six singles games for the shutout.
Lake Forest came at Oakton with a deadly singles lineup.
Oakton did not manage to win one set in all six singles matches, as
Konrad Bienia, Evan Hall, Chad Anderson, Stan Teplitsky, and Zach Pettus
each took out their opponents in straight sets.
On Sunday, the Foresters defeated Lawrence University almost as easily
, coming away with a 6-1 victory. they took all three doubles matches
for the first point and then five of the six singles matches for the win.
After co-captain Dave Kelley suffered a 4-6, 3-6 defeat in the first
singles match, seniors Shane Bell, Courtney Barr, Ray Ro, co-captain Guerin
Williams, and Reagan Kirkland each won their matches in straight sets.
Kelly's defeat came at the hands of the top player for Lawrence.
It was he who Kelly beat in the first round of last year's conference tournament.
Hall and Anderson won two exhibition matches for good measure.
This weekend, Lake Forest will hit the road for matches at Augustana
College tomorrow and Grinnell College on Saturday.
Of the Foresters' four defeats this season, three came at the hands
of Division I or II competition, including a defeat against the University
of Hawaii.
The team seems a lock to appear and defend their conference title on
May 5 at the Midwest Conference Team Championships.
"Hopefully we're starting to hit our stride as a team," said Head Coach
Chad Eisele.
