FORESTERS EARN SOUTH DIVISION'S TOP SEED WITH SUNDAY'S WIN
Sunday's win over Midwest Conference South Division rival Grinnell capped a near-perfect weekend for the Lake Forest men's tennis team and placed them in the most ideal position to claim the MWC team title at the conference meet in two weeks.  The Foresters easily defeated Lawrence and St. Norbert by identical 7-0 scores on Saturday and then nipped Grinnell 4-3 on Sunday.  Grinnell came into the match ranked tenth in the region, while Lake Forest is currently 14th.  The win over Grinnell upped the Foresters' conference record to 5-0 and secured them the MWC South Division's number one seed in the April 30th MWC Team Championships in Madison, WI.  Ripon, who edged Lake Forest in last year's conference final, defeated Grinnell on Saturday and is the North's top seed.  Grinnell will compete in the four-team tournament as the South's number two seed and play Ripon in the first round.  The Foresters will play the winner of next Saturday's St. Norbert/Beloit match in the first round.
Junior Dave Kelly, the reigning MWC champion at No. 1 singles, moved his overall singles' record above the .500 mark (8-7) with a perfect weekend, including a 6-7 (7-4), 6-3, 6-2 win over Grinnell's Spencer Piston, the 24th ranked singles player in the region.  Head Coach Chad Eisele commented, "Dave played two of the top singles players in our conference this weekend and came through with victories.  Over the past couple of weeks Dave has really stepped up his play."  Kelly has defeated two regionally ranked players (21st ranked Cunningham from Millikin and Piston) in the past two weeks.
Versus Grinnell, the Foresters also picked up wins at No. 3 singles by Jacob Wert, No. 4 singles by Ray Ro, and No. 6 singles by Guerin Williams.  Wert, Ro, and Williams have a combined 32-6 singles' record this season.
On Saturday, Lake Forest did not lose a set against St. Norbert and lost just one set versus Lawrence.
