Men's Tennis Embarrasses Competition,
Goes 4-0

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team completed a perfect weekend on April 1 and 2, sweeping four matches against Carroll College, Beloit College, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Illinois College.

The victories raised the Forester's overall record to 8-4 (4-0 within the Midwest Conference.)

On Saturday, April, 1, Lake Forest soundly defeated Carol College 7-0 and Illinois College 6-0.  Against Carroll they swept three double matches for one point and six singles matches for the other six points.  Dave Kelley, Shane Bell, Courtney Barr, Ray Ro, Guerin Williams, and Reagan Kirkland dominated play, each winning his singles' match in straight sets.

In fact, in only one of the sets did Carroll College win as many as two games.  The Foresters continued their mastery against Illinois College, as the same six players swept all of their matches in straight sets.

On Sunday, April 2, the Foresters faced stiffer competition barely defeating Illinois Wesleyan University by a count of 4-3.  They dropped the best two out of three doubles match and tow of the first three singles' matches to open the contest falling behind 3 - 1.  But Ro (4-6, 6-4, 6-2,) Williams (6-7, 6-2, 6-2,) and Kirkland (6-3, 6-4) took three straight matches to rally for the victory.  then, against Illinois College, Kelley, Bell, Ro, Kirkland, Konrad Bienia and Evan Hall dominated play to win the contest by a count of 6-0.

The Foresters, who are seeking their second consecutive Midwest conference championship, will face Oakton Community College today, then meet tow more conference foes this Saturday: St. Norbert College and Lawrence University.

Head Coach Chad Eisele, who is also the defensive coordinator for the Forester football squad, is optimistic about the future of men's tennis. "We want to build on last year's success and create a strong tradition here at Lake Forest College."
