Foresters Open 2003 at Ripon and St. Norbert 
Team falls in Coach Kane's first dual meet

DE PERE, WI - The Lake Forest College men's tennis team began the 2003 season over the weekend (February 14-15). The squad tied for third place at Saturday's Ripon Invitational Doubles Tournament and dropped a 5-2 match at St. Norbert College on Sunday. It marked the debut of new head men's tennis coach Chris Kane.

UW-La Crosse placed and host Ripon second in Saturday's tourney. Beloit College was tied for this with the Foresters. Each school had its top two doubles teams in Flight #1 and two more in Flight #2.

Lake Forest's #1 team of sophomore Gabe Beauchamp (Brossard, Quebec/Mt. Hermon School) and freshman Robert Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) won its consolation semifinal match before falling in the finals. The #3 team of freshman Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) and sophomore Alex Pukshansky (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) won its opening match before being eliminated in the Flight #2 semifinals.

On Sunday, Bienia won 6-1, 6-1 at #6 singles and teamed with freshman Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) for an 8-6 victory at #3 doubles. Junior Luke Figora (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville) also collected a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at #5 singles.

The team will be back in action on Friday, February 28 at North Central College. The Foresters will take on the University of St. Francis at 4:00 p.m. and host North Central at 8:00 p.m.
