Lake Forest Defeat Lawrence, Marian, and Lakeland over the Weekend
Tim Tierney posts 6-0 record in singles and doubles combined

Tim Tierney was 3-0 in both singles and doubles play.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men’s tennis team recorded three victories without a loss over the weekend (March 25-26). Lake Forest won 4-3 at Lawrence University and 7-0 at Marian College on Saturday before knocking off Lakeland College 7-0 at home on Sunday. The team is now 3-7 in the year.

Lawrence won the doubles point on Saturday despite an 8-5 Forester win at the number two position by freshman Rocky Tektumanidze (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield) and sophomore Tim Tierney (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock). Tierney was also victorious (6-3, 6-1) at number five singles. Senior Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) won 6-3, 6-2 at number three, freshman Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, MO/Chaminade) triumphed 6-4, 6-1 at number four, and senior Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at number six.

The Foresters recorded wins at each position at Marian, although the home team had just five players so the victories at number three doubles and six singles were by forfeit. Tektumanidze and Bienia recorded an 8-1 win at number one doubles and Tierney combined with senior Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) for an 8-0 win at number two. Neither Burda nor Sandner surrendered a game to their opponents at number two and three singles, respectively. Tektumanidze and Tierney were nearly flawless as well, winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 at one and six, respectively. Hiemenz’s 6-4, 6-0 triumph at number four was the closest match of the contest.

The doubles lineup was shuffled once again on Sunday but still came through with three victories. Tektumanidze and Burda won 8-1 at the top spot, Bienia and freshman Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood) won 8-3 at number two, and Tierney combined with freshman Andi Keca (Bloomingdale, IL/Addison Trail) for an 8-0 win at number three. Tektumanidze did not lose a game at number one singles. Burda posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory at number two and Fretter won 6-2, 6-3 at number three in his first collegiate singles match. Sandner and Hiemenz lost just one game apiece at four and five, respectively, and Tierney completed his perfect 6-0 weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six.

The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference South Division play next Saturday (April 1) at Illinois College. Lake Forest is scheduled to take on defending league champion Grinnell College at noon and the hosts at 3:00 p.m.
