Foresters Record 4-3 Victory at Carroll College

Nick Sandner got his first collegiate singles victory.
WAUKESHA, WI - The Lake Forest College men's tennis team won its second match of the 2003 season Friday (March 28), a 4-3 decision at Carroll College, a fellow member of the Midwest Conference. The victory raised the team's record to 2-4 on the season and dropped the Pioneers' mark to 2-3.

The Foresters' four points came at the three, four, five, and six singles positions.

Freshmen Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) and Rob Burda (Meridian, ID/Meridian) recorded their first collegiate singles victories at number three and four, respectively. Sandner triumphed 6-3, 6-2 and Burda won in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

At numbers five and six singles, respectively, freshman Sebastian Bienia (Lemont, IL/Lemont) and senior Andrew Schuman (San Francisco, CA/Lawrence Academy) both climbed to the .500 mark on the year with straight-set victories. Bienia prevailed 6-2, 6-4 to raise his singles record to 3-3 while Schuman's 6-3, 6-3 win made him 2-2.

Lake Forest will be in action again on Tuesday (April 1) at 3:30 p.m. at Concordia University (River Forest, IL). The team will also play at UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (April 2) and in Jacksonville, Illinois next Saturday (April 5) against MWC South Division foes Illinois College and Grinnell College.
