FORESTERS COMPETE AGAINST DIVISION I, II FOES IN HAWAII

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team's annual Spring Break trip took the Foresters across one ocean and half of the United States this year. While in Hawaii, Lake Forest competed against University of Hawaii, an NCAA Division I team, Chaminade University (NCAA Division II), and BYU-Hawaii (NCAA Division II).

The Foresters came away from the trip with one win and three losses and more prepared for the remainder of their season, according to Head Coach Chad Eisele, "Even though some of the scores appeared lop-sided, many of those games were extremely close and I was pleased with our overall performance. We played several quality opponents and, not only did we have a great time in Hawaii, but we also became a better team. We're more prepared now to defend our conference championship." Eisele guided last year's team to the school's first Conference Championship in over 20 years and the five of the top six players from that team are back for their senior season.

After dropping a 7-0 decision to Hawaii on Monday (March 6th), the Foresters defeated Chaminade, 5-4, on Wednesday (March 8th). LF picked up two wins at the top of their line-up when Dave Kelly (Wilmette, IL/New Trier H.S.) at No. 1 and Shane Bell (Scarborough, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) at No. 2 both won in straight sets. Reagan Kirkland (Fayetteville, AR/Fayetteville H.S.) picked up a three-set victory at No. 6 singles and the Foresters closed out the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Bell teamed with Guerin Williams (Chicago, IL/St. Ignatius College Prep H.S.) at No. 2 and Kirkland played picked up the win with Ray Ro (Scarborough, Ontario/Birch Mount Park Coll. Institute) at No. 3.

Lake Forest closed their trip with two losses to BYU-Hawaii on Friday (March 10th). The University of Hawaii will be a part of Lake Forest's schedule again next season, as the Foresters will host the Rainbows in 2001.
