Inducted 2002 A native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Marty Wittmer attended University Leggett School, where he played soccer and hockey. A four-year letterwinner in each sport, Wittmer helped both teams to state championships and earned All-League and All-State honors for his play. He entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 1983. During his four years on the soccer team, the Foresters had an overall record of 41-17-1 and a Midwest Conference mark of 18-2-0. The squad claimed three league titles and Wittmer, who was a co-captain as a senior, earned All-Conference honors three times as well. Lake Forest's hockey team also experienced success during his career, winning 57% (56-42-4) of its games from 1983-87. Wittmer graduated in 1987 ranked tied-for-6th in school history with 63 goals and 10th with 112 points. As a senior captain, he led the Foresters to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Championship and was an All-ACHA selection at wing. Following his four years at Lake Forest, Wittmer continued his studies and earned a Master's Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. He later went back to teach at University Leggett School and coached both the soccer and hockey teams. In 2000 he received the Excellence in Teaching Award. Wittmer lists his greatest accomplishment as his wife, Tracy, and their three sons, Sam, Mark, and Brian.
