Inducted 2001 Nicole Tarandy grew up in Orland Park, Illinois and attended Carl Sandburg High School, where she was a three-sport standout. On the soccer field, she was an All-State selection as a senior and set school records for points in a game, season, and career. At the time of her graduation in 1987, she ranked eighth nationally for career goals and set a record for most goals in a game. Nicole was also a state qualifier in diving and gymnastics and set school and pool records in diving. She entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 1987 and went on to become a four-year varsity letter winner in both soccer and diving. Tarandy was an All-Conference soccer selection each season and a three-time team Most Valuable Player. As a senior, she was named First Team All-Region. At the time of her induction, she was the only player in school history to score over 100 points and was the Forester's all-time career leader for points (141), goals (52), and assists (37). Tarandy was equally impressive in the pool, where she was s two-time All-American in the one-meter diving competition - placing eighth in 1990 and 15th in 1991 while leading the Foresters to back-to-back top-50 team finishes at nationals. While at Lake Forest, Nicole was as Senior 25 member and part of the Forester yearbook staff. She was also the founding Chapter Director of the Best Buddies of America program, which seeks to build friendships between college students and mentally handicapped persons. After graduating from Lake Forest in 1991, she became a part-time school
psychologist in Plainfield, Illinois, and a member of the Plainfield Counsel
for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
