Peter Schmit '47
Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, Peter attended St. George High School and participated in basketball and football, earning All-State honors in football.  He received a football scholarship to the University of Iowa and attended one year at the school.

He transferred to Lake Forest in 1941 and participated in football and basketball.  After his sophomore year he entered the U.S. Army, serving as an interpreter in Europe.  After an honorable discharge in 1945 he returned to Lake Forest.  Captain of both the football and basketball teams, Peter also received All-Conference honors in football.

An economics and history major, Peter graduated at the top of his class, while participating in numerous organizations.  Along with acting as president of the senior class, he was also a member of Kappa Sigma, the Economics Club, the Athletic Board of Control and the New Students' Day Committee. 

After graduation he enrolled at Northwestern and earned a Master's degree in education.  He returned to his high school alma mater to teach and coach and eventually became Athletic Director at St. Patrick High School in Chicago.  In 1967 he coached the football team to the Chicagoland Prep League Championship and in the 1970-71 school year coached both the football and basketball teams to conference championships.

Retiring in 1992, he received the LaSallian Award from the Chicago Province of Christian Brothers in recognition of his 44 years of commitment to Christian education.  Pete is also a member of both the St. Patrick High School and the Chicago Catholic League Halls of Fame.
